Idea & Impact
We are convinced that an Unconditional Basic Income (UBI) is a big leverage for a better world. It promotes the free development of the individual and guarantees independent decisions, free from coercion.
Read shortly how an Unconditional Basic Income (UBI) can be understood and how it works.
Basic Income is a new social policy. It is an unconditional monthly payment to every single citizen guaranteed by the government. The amount should be high enough for living and for cultural and social participation. We see it as a human right without verification of eligibility.
We need Basic Income so that human dignity is truly preserved and every human being can develop in the best possible way. A Basic Income enables the self-determination of the individual. Every single person is given the opportunity to say ‘no’, for example to bad working conditions. In a world divided between rich and poor, UBI builds a bridge; it secures downwards and allows freedom for the things that really matter to us – for example, becoming active against climate change.
In principle, there is enough money – it just needs to be better distributed. There are already various proofed models of financing. Simply spoken, it needs a tax reform. Basic Income will substitute most of the existing state aid and so lead to a massive simplification. We are not aware of a study which has the result that UBI financing is not possible – but a lot of studies which calculates UBI financing models successfully. So it is not a question of whether we can finance it, but whether we want to.
